Who Will Save This Magpie Family From The Deadly Snake?
High in the branches of a tall eucalyptus tree, a magpie mother sat in her nest, guarding her three pale blue eggs. The air was calm, and the sounds of the forest filled the morning—wind rustling leaves, insects buzzing, and birds calling to one another. All seemed peaceful, but danger was silently slithering below.

A long, black snake moved up the tree trunk, its tongue flicking the air. It had smelled the eggs and was climbing steadily, inching closer to the nest. The magpie mother spotted it too late. She spread her wings wide and shrieked, flapping and pecking as the snake lunged into the nest, hissing in fury.
The snake struck at her, catching her wing. She cried out in pain but refused to leave. She stood her ground, shielding her eggs even as the snake coiled and prepared for a final strike. Her heart pounded, her strength fading, but then—she made one desperate call. A loud, sharp cry that echoed through the treetops.
For a moment, the forest was silent. Then, like shadows sweeping across the sky, a flock of magpies arrived. From every direction, they swooped down, calling loudly, diving at the snake. Beaks stabbed, wings beat furiously, and the air filled with chaos as the snake twisted and hissed in panic.
Overwhelmed, the snake lost its grip and tumbled from the nest, falling to the ground below and slithering away into the underbrush. The magpies didn’t stop until it was gone. Then they circled back, perching around the nest, watching over their brave sister.
The magpie mother, though bruised and panting, looked down at her unbroken eggs and let out a soft, grateful chirp. She wasn’t alone. And because of that, her nest—and her future—had been saved.
